 CAMPING

Last year Y5’s and Y6’s went camping at Edale. We did lots of different things and we had lots of fun; we played rounders, went swimming at Hathersage, walked up Mam Tor (a huge hill which was extremely tiring) and many other fun activities.

The funniest thing we did was the string trail because you didn’t know where you were going. First we had to pick a partner (I chose Charlotte ) and the person who was going first had to put some black material over our head (don’t worry it was safe). Then we had to hold onto a long piece of string, which the teachers wrapped around different tree barks, and follow the string all the way to the end. But our partner had to give us different directions and instructions. When one of the partners had finished they had to swap and give the black material to the other person. When both me (Erikah) and Charlotte had finished both of our turns, we got to do it with Mr Broad and Mrs Grayson. It was really funny because they kept on bumping into trees!

Camping

Last year at camping we did lots of fun things like the string trail and we went for walks, which were fun because everyone was talking to each other and the teachers made questions for us to answer. When we had our tea it would be potatoes one night, which we made, we also had a barbeque which was very smokey but the best night was when we had pizza. There were lots of toppings you could have like margharita, pepperoni and cheese.

On the first day, when we got there, we went swimming at Hathersage open air swimming baths. Everyone had fun there but if you could not swim you had to stay at the shallow end and the people that could swim got to swim at the deep end.

One day we walked up a hill called Mam Tor and when you got to the top you could see the campsite in one valley and Castleton in another valley.

Camping in Edale

Last year, 2007, the Y5s went to Edale campsite for two days. (Monday to Wednesday 21st to the 23rd of May) We did lots of things including a seven mile walk up to Mam Tor then visited Peak cavern, searched for special purple coloured rocks (Blue John).

On another day we even had a pleasant woody walk in the streamy woods at approximately in the morning. I was sharing a tent with Erica and Chloe so you get to share a tent with your friends.

The best thing about the trip was when Dan and I made fried potatoes. Dan just made plain ones and I, when it eventually reached my turn, made some with cheese and onion. They were delicious!
